Its a fresh week and a new day. Ready for a new story?

Harold & The Purple Crayon

Our story today is a classic, have you read it before? “Harold and the Purple Crayon” is a bedtime fave here! Its so simple yet captivating.

>>After we read the story together, you can play along at your house! We’ll tell you about Yarn Art and an easy little printable in the video.

We also found some other really fun craft and play ideas that are very Harold-y! They are all linked below!

First up, here's a simple print and color sheet to get you started! Pick a color and draw whatever you want in the box. Then fill in the blanks! (click the photo to download the printable!)

Yarn Art

Do you have any purple yarn? (We don’t!) So any string will do. What shapes could you make out of it? Grab a piece of paper and some glue, and get to creating your own shapes on paper. It will look a lot like how Harold created everything with his crayon! (Wiki stix or pipe cleaners would be a cool idea here too!)

Draw Your Own Adventure: We are totally doing this! If you have a printer at home, snap a pic of your kiddo in a “drawing” pose. Print it out, cut it out, and then glue it on a piece of paper. Draw your own adventure around it. See this post for an example:

Purple Sensory Paint:

Funnn! And easy for little ones. Paint in a bag! I love the q-tip idea. We are going to practice writing letters and numbers on this.  http://www.sensiblesuggestions.com/book-of-the-week-harold-and-the-purple-crayon-by-crockett-johnson-2/

Purple Playdough Scenes:

Easy as can be! Do you have purple play dough on hand? Pull it out and recreate your favorite part of the story. That’ll probably turn into a whole play dough playing session and should buy enough time to make another cup of coffee ;)

Lots of virtual hugs, friends! One day at a time!
